Longest Tri this season

Did the Heatwave Classic Triathlon (Swim 1/2 miles, bike 24.5 miles, run 10K), last weekend. It was great. My time was slow, 3:38:40, but I was glad I finished. I finally found out that my bike needs an overhaul, or I need a new one. I'm going to stick with the overhaul, until next season. My bike is a 9 speed, which explains why I was being passed up by everyone, even mountain bikes. I'm going to get my drivetrain upgraded.

I will definitely be participating, next year.

Completed 1st Tri of the season

Completed my first triathlon (Soak up the Sun) of the season, this weekend. Had a great time, and got to test myself before the big triathlon started rolling in. I have to remember to unclip both shoes at the dismount area. WOW! The area was great, and I will definitely be competing next year.

My best 5k

I ran my best 5K in a long time, at the "Gimme Shelter 5k". My time was 35:21. I was a little sore from weight training during the week. My next running event is this Saturday. I'll be running in the MS 50 Trail Run (50K--31.25 miles). I'm looking forward to it.

Great Workout, Today...

Had a great workout, today. My goal is to run 7 minute miles, easily, by April. I worked on sprinting quarter miles at 7.5 mph-this was my top speed, close to the end of the work out. I started at 5.5 for warmup, then moved between 6.5-7.5. It was great. My cardio is good; just got train my legs to move faster.

My best 3 miler

This morning, I ran the best 3 miler since...it's been that long (37:58), and I even walked a little. This was first day running since the marathon, last weekend. I felt good. I'm starting to work on strengthening my lower body more. I may do the half-marathon in New Orleans, not sure. I know for sure that my next event is March 6th: MS 50 Tail Run. I will be running the 50K (31.25 miles). Piece of cake.

MS Blues Marathon 1/9/10

Well, the MS. Blues Marathon is another accomplishment I can check off my list. I finished in 6:51.08. The cut-off time was 7 hours. It was a harsh welcome to my first marathon: start temperature was 17 degrees with a 9 degree windchill (so it felt like 3 degrees). It was cold. I thought I was going to shed my jacket, but that never happened. At mile 13, I wished I would have registered for the half-marathon, but I couldn't quit. It wasn't until mile 22 that I started to warm up. Wow. The last mile of was up hill. Can you believe that? My cardio was superb. My muscle endurance, well, that needs some work. I wasn't winded at all. I do need to check on getting a new pair of running shoes, though. It really felt great crossing the finish line, although almost everyone was gone. I didn't have to be concerned with crowds leaving the parking or waiting in line to get some refreshments. I didn't mind, though. I changed into dry clothes, still unable to really feeling anything (it was cold), got in my truck, with the heater turned up full blast, and dranked a lot of water and powerade, finished a bagel, then headed to Hattiesburg. I believe I was suffering from slight hypothermia, because I was shivering for about 45 minutes (in addition to the heater, I had my hat, jacket and gloves on all the way home). I was able to take off my gloves and hat when I was almost to Collins.

I must say, that I replenished myself very well. No trip to the emergency room, due to dehydration or anything else. Praise the Lord! The Monday following the marathon, I went for a 2.5 mile swim. It was great. I didn't workout, again, until Thursday (1/14), and I swam one mile. I really just let my body recoup.

Long Run

Ran 15 miles, today. This is the first time I ran outside to train (I usually run on a treadmill). I walked about 1/2 mile. The last 3 miles kicked my butt, but I kicked back and finished. Legs are sore, but I feel great. I've got to really strengthen my legs.
